"Together for a smart rural Europe (Lednice declaration)"

The seminar in Lednice, "Community-led Local Development and Smart Villages as Innovative Tools for Effective Development of Rural Areas", brought together representatives of the European Parliament, the Committee of the Regions (CoR), the Czech EU Council presidency and the European Commission, as well as stakeholders of local development projects funded and supported by EU programmes.

Participants discussed the way forward in terms of the EU's current financing period and the shaping of future programming periods covered by the long-term vision. Many project leaders presented interesting practices related to community-led local development (including multi-fund approaches) and smart villages. Presentations are available on-line.

The CoR and the EP-RUMRA intergroup endorsed the “Declaration of Lednice”, promoting the rural vision and the Rural pact, community-led local development (CLLD/LEADER) and smart villages. The Declaration asks smart villages and CLLD to become an integral part of regional policy, in synergy with others policies (LEADER). It asks also for adoption of holistic and evidence-based approaches for rural areas using all possible instruments and involving in citizens in finding solutions.
