RUSTIK: fostering sustainability transitions in rural areas

The four-year transdisciplinary RUSTIK project is one of the two large projects funded under Horizon Europe to improve rural evidence, with the idea to enrich the Rural Observatory with new data and indicators. RUSTIK aims to facilitate the digital and green transformation of rural areas in Europe by providing rural communities' actors and policy makers with better strategies, initiatives, and policies that foster sustainability transitions of rural areas.

RUSTIK (Rural Sustainability Transitions through Integration of Knowledge for improved policy processes) will analyse current adaptation requirements, advance the understanding of different rural functionalities and characteristics, and support effective rural policy-making processes to address the increasing social and ecological challenges faced by rural areas. The project consortium consists of 31 partners from 12 European countries, with 14 pilot regions in eight EU countries and two non-EU countries. The project will run from September 2022 to August 2026 (48 months).
