EESC thematic debate on the Rural Pact #1: renewable energies in rural areas

In line with its commitments to the Rural Pact, the European Economic and Social Committee (EESC), will organise a thematic debate on renewable energies in rural areas during the next meeting of its Section for Agriculture, Rural Development and the Environment (NAT Section) planned on Thursday 9 March (11:00 -12:30).

The debate will be opened by a presentation by Mr Günter Mögele, the Deputy Mayor of Wildpoldsried, a town in Germany which is recognised for its exceptional achievements in renewable energy production and in reducing its carbon footprint. The second speaker will be Ms Adela Tesarova, Head of Unit for Consumers, Local Initiatives and Just Transition, who will present the European Commission's DG Energy's work on energy communities (including on the Rural Energy Community Advisory Hub initiative) and explain how this work can benefit rural areas, linking to the long-term vision on rural areas and more specifically looking at how the Rural Pact can support the replication of such initiatives. The debate will be moderated by Mr Peter SCHMIDT, president for the NAT Section, and be followed by discussion with the NAT Section Members.

The debate will be webstreamed here, in 3 languages (EN/ FR/ DE). We invite you to follow this event!
