The World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) has opened applications for its Best Tourism Villages initiative, which recognises exceptional rural tourism destinations. Applications can be submitted by up to eight villages per UNWTO Member State through their National Tourism Administrations until June 23, 2023.
Since its launch in 2021, over 70 villages from almost 40 countries have been recognised as Best Tourism Villages. The selection is based on an evaluation of initiatives in nine areas covering sustainable development. Villages not fully meeting the criteria can benefit from the ‘Best Tourism Villages by UNWTO’ Upgrade Programme, which offers support to those villages to address the gaps identified in the evaluation process. The initiative also includes the ‘Best Tourism Villages by UNWTO’ Network, which offers a platform for exchanging experiences and good practices.
If you are interested to join, visit UNWTO’s website for more information.
